What is BitClout Wallet? +
BitClout Wallet is a self-custody, multi-chain wallet built for the social and creator economy. It supports DeSo, Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, Polygon and BNB Chain, plus social-native features like creator coins, NFT royalties and encrypted messaging.
How is it different from MetaMask or Phantom? +
Most wallets are built for trading. BitClout Wallet is built for creators: it ships creator-coin tooling, on-chain DMs and tipping primitives that single-chain wallets simply don't have.
Is it free? +
Yes. The wallet is free and open source under the MIT license. We don't charge subscription fees and don't take a cut of your transactions.
Do you have my seed phrase? +
No. Your seed never leaves your device. We can't recover it for you, freeze your wallet or access your funds.
What happens if I lose my phone? +
Restore from your seed phrase on any device. Optionally enable Shamir backup to split the seed across trusted parties.
Has the wallet been reviewed by outsiders? +
Yes. Four independent reviews since 2025 covered transactions, recovery phrases, cross-network swaps and encrypted sync. A summary of each one is published with the release that fixes it.
What fees does BitClout Wallet charge? +
Zero protocol fees. You only pay the underlying network gas / transaction fees. Cross-chain swaps include a small spread from the underlying liquidity provider.
Which tokens are supported? +
All native assets and standard tokens on each supported chain, ERC-20, SPL, BEP-20, native DESO and more. Custom tokens can be added by contract address.
Can I add my own RPC endpoint? +
Yes. Settings → Networks → Custom RPC. Useful for privacy or running your own node.
Do I need a separate recovery phrase for each network? +
No. One phrase creates your addresses on every supported network. Back it up once and you can restore everything.
Is moving assets between chains safe? +
We never hold your funds. If any part of a cross-chain transfer fails, the whole thing reverts and your money stays where it was.
Which network is cheapest for NFTs? +
Polygon and DeSo cost a fraction of a cent to mint. Ethereum has the biggest market. The wallet shows the fee for each option before you commit.
Can I use a Ledger on every network? +
Yes. Ledger and Trezor sign transactions for all six supported networks.
How do you decide which network to add next? +
The community votes on the Chains page and the winner enters development the following quarter.
Which computers can run the wallet? +
Macs from macOS 12 onwards, Windows 10 or newer, and most Linux distributions on both Intel and ARM machines.
Why is there no mobile app or browser add-on? +
The wallet is built for people holding real balances, where a hardware key and a trusted computer matter. A phone or a browser add-on cannot offer the same protection, so we chose not to ship one.
How do updates work? +
The app tells you when a new version is out and installs it after you agree. You can always turn that off.
Do I need to be online all the time? +
No. You can prepare a payment offline and sign it on a machine that never connects to the internet.
Can I move my wallet to another computer? +
Yes. Install the app there and enter your recovery phrase. Nothing else needs to be copied.
How do creator coins work? +
The price of a creator coin rises as more people buy it and falls when they sell. The creator keeps a share, usually 5 to 10 percent, of every trade.
Are staking rewards safe? +
Staking has real risks, such as validator downtime. We only connect to established staking providers and show the worst case before you confirm.
Do I need to pay tax on earnings? +
Most likely, though it depends on where you live. The wallet exports a full activity report you can hand to an accountant.
